About The Krewe

The Krewe of Perseus was chartered by the State of Louisiana on April 27, 1970, thus making it the oldest Carnival organization in Slidell.  We are incorporated as “Beau Geste, Inc.” or in English, “Graceful Gesture”.  The purpose of the Krewe was ( and is) to bring a true Mardi Gras Ball and Parade to the City of Slidell.  We are strictly a social organization and operate with funds which are generated solely by our members through dues and the profit from Ball tickets.  The minimum age of a member is 21 years old.

Krewe Functions

Perseus Ball is held on the 4^th Saturday before Mardi Gras.  Perseus Parade rolls through the traditional route in Slidell on the 3^rd Sunday before Mardi Gras beginning at 1:00 p.m.  The Perseus Ball is formal for guests attending and members are in costume.  There is a Tableau, where the King and Queen are presented to the audience and a dance after the Tableau.  Tickets may only be obtained from Perseus Members.  Perseus prides themselves in being a “very social krewe” and there are other parties given for the members and their dates throughout the year.  These include: Catfish Fry & Membership Party, Super Seafood Boil Party, Octoberfest,  King and Queen Reception, and Christmas and Royal Court Presentation Party.  All of these parties are no extra charge to the members of the Krewe.

Krewe Fees

 

Perseus has a membership of no more than 250 members.  We choose to keep membership at that number so that we will never be so big that we cannot know everyone in the krewe and be able to party with them.  There are 12 Float Krewe Groups; consisting of 10 “Coed” (men and women), 1 “All Men”, and 1 “All Women” so everyone will fit in.  Perseus “year” goes from Mardi Gras to Mardi Gras.  After each Mardi Gras, a new Perseus year begins.
